Tiger In Leaves
I was in South Korea in an over crowded hospital room where no one spoke my language. I was paralyzed from the waist down from an epidural after being awake and watching an emergency surgery take place on my shattered cartilage in my knee which was the size of a watermelon. For whatever reason I needed to be awake during the surgery so I saw bright lights, eight doctors speaking a foreign language rushing back and forth, a big metal box around my leg, bloody tools coming in and out, and a sensation of cold but no feeling. I had not done art in a few years this is what I drew in that post operation moment with chalk pastels bought on the way into the hospital. The Tiger is the national animal of South Korea and for me it represents strength. The art itself was of a much higher caliber than I had a previously done. I overcame this ordeal and was climbing mountains in New Zealand the following year.
This was taken at the Ontario Provincial Sandbanks were I spent much of childhood. It used to be sand dunes that were so hot and void of vegetation that I once found a tortoise petrified mid step by the heat of sun. One year, I went to visit after a few years being away, to my great surprise it was now a forest brimming with life which is why I called this design Evergreen a nice reminder things can always turn for the better just as quick as they go the other way. I find this picture sparkling with hope and growth.
In my final semester of my undergraduate degree in the middle of exams. I was going for a walk to clear my head. Everything is cloudy and grey; my mood, the streets, and the sky were grey and overcast. It had been a hard day, a hard week, and a hard few years. There was not much colour to be seen or felt that day. Then, out of no where on the edge of a barren lot next to a grey building this flower, about hip height, is a blast of vibrant colour! I take out my red point and shoot camera out of my purse and take a picture and it was if I captured sunshine then put in my pocket. I was smiling the rest of the day. It is amazing how the smallest things can make a world of difference.
Fire and Ice
This is the newest design not yet a complete collection. This is a photograph I took at my brother's wedding in February. This image resonated with me so much that it became my profile picture for email. This image is a beautiful representation of my life's journey. My life has been hot , cold and everything in between. Things certainly have not been easy for me but simply beautiful in its contrast.
